The Philip Lesser Education Fund will recognize the Contributions to Clients and Growth of the Association Community

CHICAGO and WASHINGTON, DC – May 4, 2017 – Today Bostrom announced the creation of the Philip Lesser, PhD, CAE Education Fund to honor Dr. Lesser, who will retire as a Bostrom vice president at the end of June.

“We couldn’t think of a more appropriate way to recognize Phil’s tremendous contributions to clients, the association community, and as importantly, our industry’s next generation,” said Ken Monroe, Chairman and CEO, Bostrom.

Through the Association Forum Foundation, the Philip Lesser Award will be distributed annually to four recipients to attend each of the Association 101 classes offered by the Forum. The first recipients will be announced later this year for the 2018 classes and Dr. Lesser will continue to mentor the scholarship recipients entering the profession whenever needed.

Additionally, Bostrom will honor Dr. Lesser at a VIP reception in conjunction with the Association Forum’s Honors Gala on June 29, 2017, recognizing his contributions to the association industry.

A 24-year Bostrom veteran, Dr. Lesser is a Vice President and lead consultant for its consulting practice. In addition to serving as the CEO of several national organizations, Dr. Lesser has extensive experience with trade associations, professional societies, and credentialing bodies. His areas of expertise include strategic planning, volunteer and staff development, organization structure and bylaws. Throughout his career, he has helped organizations learn how to adopt effective management practices and achieve organizational success.

His longstanding commitment to the association community is well-known.  Dr. Lesser, a 30-year member of the Association Forum of Chicagoland, has served as its Chairman; Chairman of the Certified Association Executive [CAE] Commission of the American Society of Association Executives [ASAE], and ASAE’s CEO Advisory Board. He is a frequent contributor to professional publications and a popular presenter at educational events, as well as a lecturer in strategic planning at The University of Chicago.

“It was bittersweet news hearing of Phil’s retirement,” said Michelle Mason, FASAE, CAE and President & CEO of the Association Forum. “His involvement in Association 101 and mentoring so many up and coming association professionals has been an invaluable service to the Forum and to the association community as a whole. His continuing mentorship associated with the scholarship is yet another testament to his commitment to our industry,” she said.

The Forum honored Dr. Lesser in 2012 with its John C. Thiel Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes an “unsung hero” who has demonstrated long-term, multifaceted leadership as an Association Forum volunteer, primarily through service on committees and other contributions.
