Hello! I’m
Peter Doherty, CAE
I am an Account Executive at Bostrom
Engaged Leadership | Results Driven | Innovative Solutions
A native Washingtonian and graduate of James Madison University, I achieved the Certified Association Executive designation from the American Society of Association Executives in 2005 and have previously served as a volunteer for ASAE and the Greater Washington Society for Association Executives. Here at Bostrom, I am proud to have served as Executive Director for the International Biometric Society since 2016.
Association work may be my chosen profession, but it’s also my passion. I am interested in building long-term relationships with volunteers and Boards seeking to grow their association’s presence, improve member service, develop efficient operations, explore innovative programming, and celebrate collaboration within an industry and their varied stakeholders.
As we learn more about the new generations joining the workforce, one thing is clear… Associations must seek to evaluate their available programs, processes and volunteer governance strategies in order to take advantage of the opportunities ahead and truly thrive.
My sales and marketing background helps me to act on sales opportunities that others sometimes miss, keeping in mind that sales are always more effective when there’s a true partnership between the staff and volunteers. Because it’s the members who define an organization’s culture and vision, and it’s also the members who understand what their colleagues really want and need!
My Background
With more than twenty-five years of association management experience with stand-alone organizations and AMCs, I may not have seen it all at this point… but I can probably connect with someone who has. I have served as Executive Director for Bostrom clients since 2015 and have partnered with non-profits in the sciences, healthcare, the arts, transportation, retail products, utilities, real estate and construction.
I’ve been privileged to lead teams who have developed new workflows for association operations, launched new tradeshows and sales initiatives, managed major increases in membership and shifts to operations, launched multiple websites and nationwide recruitment campaigns, and represented my clients as a primary press resource. My arts background (I am a semi-professional musician when I’m not at my day job!), communications, analytical thinking and relationship-building skills all help me to maintain a professional demeanor while dealing with the tough questions from the media, important stakeholders and individual members.
