The Association Forum of Chicagoland has named Philip Lesser, Ph.D., CAE, vice president, Bostrom, the recipient of the 2012 John C. Thiel Distinguished Service Award. The award, in memory of this chairman-elect of the Forum, is granted annually to an “unsung hero” who has demonstrated long-term, multifaceted leadership as an Association Forum volunteer, primarily through service on committees and other contributions.
Dr. Lesser, a Forum member for more than 30 years, has served in a variety of capacities: as a Chair (and member) of the Forum Board of Directors and as Chair of the Education and Professional Standards Committees. Throughout his work, he has helped the Chicagoland association community increase its professionalism and has encouraged association executives to pursue professional industry certification, standards and professional education. Dr. Lesser helped the Forum develop the first standards of practice for the association community through his chairmanship of the first Professional Standards Committee, paving the way for the ongoing development of these Standards.
A recognized expert in strategic planning, organization assessment, leadership facilitation and development, and governance and bylaws issues, Dr. Lesser joined Bostrom in 1993. “Phil’s contributions to the association community exemplify a spirit of service of innovation and the Thiel Award is a fitting tribute to his tireless efforts,” said Randy Lindner, CAE, president, Bostrom.
The award will be presented at the Forum’s Honors Gala on June 21 at Navy Pier, in conjunction with Association Week. For more information, visit: www.associationforum.org/EdEvents.
